Welcome to the the Fish Blog & saltwater fishing reports page of Super Fly Charters & Capt. George Harris. We're looking forward to providing you with updated coastwide inshore saltwater fishing reports as well as offshore Bluefin Tuna fishing reports as the Maine Striper & "football" Bluefin Tuna Fishing season goes forward into 2009!!!

Super Fly Charters provides friendly, professional guided fly & light tackle fishing for Striped Bass, Bluefish & "Football" Bluefin Tuna. When the conditions are right we specialize in sight casting the flats, we also cast our flies, lures and live-bait to powerful tidal rips, eddies, and bold ocean washed ledges. We operate in the mid coast region of Maine from Casco Bay to Penobscot Bay including the mighty Kennebec River, an area covering an astonishing 1000 miles of the Maine Striper coast. We focus our efforts on the Kennebec Watershed also the rocky coast & islands of Muscongus Bay & the untouched saltwater flats & rips of the St. George River.

Summer Arrives...Finally!!!

Easterly Winds, Rain, Drizzle, Fog...these are all things that Maine Striper fishermem have been dealing with for the last few weeks...ALL THAT IS OVER!!!
Summer has arrived in the midcoast and we should see a huge improvement in our Striper fishery. Bright skies and warm breezes will make our outings all that much more enjoyable. The early morning tides over the next few days should prove to be very good. Low light coupled with low water are two of the pieces of the puzzle that have been bringing it all together lately. We're still finding stripers in the shallows and they're still slapping topwaters fished s-l-o-w-l-y. Make sure to be stealthy when approaching shallow water...the fish are there but if you go charging in...the game is over!!!

Livebaiting over the ledges has been productive as usual!!!...finding the right bait makes all the difference and is definetly worth spending the extra time to secure a good supply of it, the "Super Fly" is outfitted with two massive forty gallon livewells!!!

I still have some good tides available for anyone looking to fish over the next couple of weeks so if you haven't already made your plans...pick up the phone and call us today!!!

Our kids fishing trips have been extremely popular this season. These trips provide a great way for parents to get their children hooked on saltwater fishing & are a great way to spend some fun & exciting family time together on the water. These trips typically depart late morning, so there is no need to drag the kids out of bed for a "crack of dawn" outing. A typical 4 hr trips usually result in dozen's of hard fighting mackeral caught per child. Other species frequently caught on these trips are Striped Bass, Bluefish & Cod. Harbor Seals & Porpoises are often seen on these trips, Osprey, Bald Eagles & Great Blue Heron too!!!....Please contact us for more details!!!

S.S. Flies ~ Olive "Raghead" Crab ~ The raghead fly, originally designed for Permit & Bones, has been a killer for us when sight casting to Striped Bass around the numerous Mussel bars that fringe many of our shallow flats. We frequently encounter Stripers that are "Tailed Up"...yes Stripers do "tail", like an Abaco Bone or Redfish of Florida's famed Indian River Lagoon, Striped Bass often feed by grubbing around on the mud & eelgrass flats for crabs, shrimp and worms, leaving their tails wagging like flags in the breeze. A well presented fly presented just upcurrent of the "tailing" Striper...slowy crawled along the bottom will usually yield a strike...We've also seen an increase in the number of Winter Flounder caught "On The Fly" when using these smaller crab patterns, additionally. NOTE: for the non-fly anglers a well presented silver dollar sized live green crab pinned to a 1/0 hook or jighead slays "tailing" fish...We always have a good selection of crab flies as well as other crustacean, "Worm Hatch" & other finesse presentation flies in our flybox!!! ~ CHECK BACK SOON FOR THE NEXT "SUPER FLY" OF THE MONTH!!!
